The golden mahseer is the fish people come for — a hard-fighting carp relative that holds in the fast, oxygenated pools where tributaries meet the main rivers. The Siyom near Along and the middle Siang both fish well, and the lower Subansiri has a reputation among anglers who have been coming for decades. It is sight-and-feel fishing from the bank and from rafts, mostly with spinners and large flies.
We run angling strictly catch-and-release, with barbless hooks and local ghillies who grew up reading this water. Permits and river access are arranged in advance with the community fishing rights holders, which is part of why keeping the fishery healthy matters to everyone involved. Bring your own rods if you are particular; we can supply the rest.
