Arunachal's trekking is still the unhurried kind. The Talley Valley trail out of Ziro is a two-day walk through pine and bamboo into a silver-fir plateau; the routes above Mechuka run along grassy ridgelines with the Yargyap Chu far below; and the approach to Gorichen base camp from Tawang takes you past frozen lakes and yak pasture at over 14,000 feet. None of these are technical, but the altitude and the weather are real — afternoons cloud over fast and the passes hold snow well into spring.
We keep groups small and build in an acclimatisation day whenever a route climbs past 12,000 feet. Camps are simple: tents, a cook, and porters or pack ponies for the longer trails. Come with broken-in boots, layers for a 20-degree swing between noon and night, and no fixed expectation of a summit — the weather decides, and the walk is the point.
